Catholic Life in the Parish

When we talk about St Joseph's Church we are talking not just about the physical building but more importantly, about the active Catholic community within Blaydon. The parish currently has an average Sunday Mass attendance of around three hundred people.

While the church buildings are the focal point of our Catholic celebrations, it is the different church activities by our extended catholic family, which contribute significantly to both the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of families within our community.

St Joseph's Church is a large and active parish performing a wide variety of different functions supporting all the different aspects of parish life. In the main it is the Parish Groups who are responsible for co-ordinating these activities.

From these pages it can be seen that parish life in St Joseph's Church embraces many different aspects but with particular emphasis on achieving the following objectives:-

  • Promotion of family values and family life
  • Religious instruction and moral development of the young
  • Preparation for the sacraments
  • Training and development in matters relating to theology, scripture and catechetics
  • Development of a sense of community and belonging among all members of our parish family.
